Where did our religious traditions come from?

I am adding Pagan Christianity: Exploring the Roots of Our Church Practices, by Frank Viola and George Barna, to my reading list. http://www.amazon.com/Pagan-Christianity-Exploring-Church-Practices/dp/141431485X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1201021831&sr=8-1 The authors seek to take a historical look at many of our church practices, including dressing up for church, pew arrangements, and the like. It should be interesting. Far too often we mistake tradition for gospel, which limits our effectiveness and ability to reach out to the world.
Does this work/topic interest you? What practices would you be interested in knowing the historical origin?
